March 14, 2020

To Our Bethel Church Family,

As you know, the information regarding COVID-19 is changing rapidly.  It is important that we make our decisions based on the best available information and this sometimes means our decisions change as our available information changes.  As a result of conversations with informed persons, decisions made by other churches and organizations, and suggestions made by MCBC, we will cancel our Sunday service for March 15th.

While not ideal, this is an excellent reminder that the church is not the building, the church is not the service, and the church is not the time - the church is the people.  We encourage you to still set aside time on Sunday to worship, to spend time with God's Word, and to phone someone from Bethel to encourage them and be encouraged.  In this way, we can continue to be the people of God as we are reminded of the character of God.  We will also aim to send out an e-mail containing a short video message from Pastor Jon on Sunday morning so please keep an eye on your inbox for that.

We are planning to have updates for you early in the week with how we will be proceeding.  We will continue to communicate by sending out e-mails, updating Facebook, and updating our website so please check one of those at least once a day so you can stay informed.  In addition to this, keep praying, keep worshiping, and keep connecting with each other by phone, text, and e-mail.   Despite all these changes and challenges, please remember the words of Psalm 46:

God is our refuge and strength,
  an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
  and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
  and the mountains quake with their surging
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
  the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
  God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
  he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord Almighty is with us;
  the God of Jacob is our fortress.
