Dear Bethel Family,
We are living in a strange and challenging season. With Christmas just around the corner, we are facing dramatically increased COVID numbers and the Government of BC is taking steps to bring these numbers down. They held a meeting with faith leaders in BC yesterday (Wednesday, November 18th) to say that indoor gatherings will be postponed for the time being. Further details will be announced in their press conference today at 3PM.
This means that in person Sunday services at Bethel will be postponed for the time being. We don’t know many details around how long this will be for and will send out an update next week once there is more clarity in the road ahead.
This might be difficult news for you. I know that I have had discouraging moments in the past weeks and I am eagerly awaiting the time when we can live life free of restrictions. Until then, I would encourage you to join me in considering the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 4:
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
I pray that you would experience God’s “inner renewing” in this season and would encourage all of us to keep our eyes fixed on the unseen eternal.
In the meantime, I would encourage you to do the following things:
• Keep an eye on the weekly Newsletter. We will aim to provide details and updates as they are made
• If you’d like to connect online, join us on Zoom on Sunday morning. The link will be in the Newsletter, so
please keep an eye out for it!
• Connect with someone this week. As COVID wears on, it is becoming increasingly important that we reach out and encourage one another. This is a letter so you can’t tell, but I just took a break from writing to send someone a text. I would strongly encourage you to do the same – put down this letter and reach out to someone by phone, letter, text, e-mail, Instagram, SnapChat, TikTok, Facebook, or a carrier pigeon (if you have one available).
“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.”
